Hello July, and Happy Birthday to all you July Babies!
The great thing about July birthdays is that you don’t have a lot of other major holidays to steal the limelight from your special day.
The bad thing about having a July birthday is that a lot of people are on vacation which means you may be kind of lonely on your special day unless you happen to be on vacation too.
With this thought in mind I have written an extended birthday dispatch to capture all of those wild and quirky days of note that populate your birth month.
On the vacation front, July is the month to celebrate Paperback Book Day. Who doesn’t like to take along a few good reads on their vacation?
July is also National Postage Stamp Day. When I lived in the Icon Realm, my family visited a lot of different icon worlds where I would always pick up some postage stamps to put on the various postcards I sent back to everyone in Cratersville.
Of course, many of the icon worlds didn’t have post cards or postage stamps because these were considered “out-of-era” for the world’s aesthetic. When that happened I made my own post cards with my Creation Book and mailed them—with the appropriate postage—when I arrived in the next “in era” icon world.
July is also National Picnic Month, which makes sense since it has an over-the-top number of celebratory food days such as National Freezer Pop Day, National Sugar Cookie Day, National Pina Colada Day, National Blueberry Muffin Day, National French Fry Day, National Chocolate with Almonds Day, National Mac and Cheese Day, National Lollipop Day, National Fortune Cookie Day, National Avocado Day and National Hot Dog Day.
Speaking of food, National Drive-thru Day is also celebrated in July.
National Moon Day also joins the July party. I would be more excited if this day was about the moon itself but it’s actually about celebrating the July 20, 1969 moon landing. Well, “that’s one small step” in the right direction.
July is also a time to celebrate World UFO Day, International Rock Day, National Emoji Day, Carousel Day, National Walk on Stilts Day and Mechanical Pencil Day. Talk about an eclectic group of days!
Bikinis are also celebrated in July. Did you know that bikinis were named after the Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific where they conducted nuclear testing in 1946. Who would have thought that a skimpy bathing suit could be so shockingly “explosive”?
July is also the month for Pandemonium Day—which I celebrate every day—along with National Jump for Jelly Beans Day and Take a Monkey to Lunch Day. That last one is for celebrating all things primate—excluding humans. We humans tend to make it about us way too much.
Last but not least, July is the month for Fireworks and Apple Pie Day that’s what we called Independence Day in Cratersville.
Just remember, no matter what days you chose to celebrate this month, I’ll be lighting a sparkler and thinking of you.
Wishing all of you a Star-Spangled Birthday!
