Butterflies

     don’t always know

           where they will go

or how they will get there

Sometimes

     the wind is against them

Sometimes

     they have to take

          shelter against a storm

Sometimes

     they flutter about

          in the sunshine

                dreaming of the journey

                     they will take someday

Then, the time comes

when the wind is just right,

           and it lifts them higher

                 than they’ve ever been before

They never dreamed

      they could fly so fast

They never dreamed

     they could travel so far

That’s when their sights

     shift to the stars,

          and they never look back
