Magical Birthday

Another month has come and gone, where’s the summer going!

Of course, here in the Creators Realm I don’t experience summer the same way that I did in Cratersville, or as I do when I’m staying in the Wanderlore Grove. That’s okay because I always have my eternal clock hovering nearby which enlightens me, not only to the waxing and waning of the moon, but to the seasons and days of import as well through the ever-changing constellations of colorful star-like lights that keep it company.

As you know by now, I send out birthday wishes at the beginning of the month to you special birthday babies. August is another one of those months where there’s not too much going on as far as major holidays go, so you should be safe from those people who try to combine holiday gifts and birthday wishes into one nifty package.

My sister Poppy—whose birthday fell around the time of Winter Wish—returned the favor to any such gift-perpetrators by combining their birthday gift with a celebratory card for some obscure day (usually of her creation) such as national goat milking day or take your dinosaur to work day. Unfortunately she was so clever with her cards that people actually got a kick out of receiving them. Go figure, but she did prove her point.

That being said, there are certain happenings in the month of August I thought you might be interested in. August is Happiness Happens Month, International Peace Month and National Sandwich Month. The first week of August is International Clown Week, which can be really creepy if you detest clowns. For those of you more seasonally inclined, the beginning of August marks the first of the harvest festivals celebrating the reaping of the grain.

August is also the time for the National Hobo Convention. Hobos, for those of you who don’t know, are traveling workers. I know there are negative stereotypes out there about those who travel a lot for one reason or another. But, like the Wanderlores and Wanderlusts in my Realm, many times the traveling—though misunderstood— serves an important function in society that most people just don’t get.

Near the end of August there’s Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. Legend says that beloved pets and other animals cross the rainbow bridge to paradise where they await their human companions before venturing on to new adventures together. Of course, there are variations of this story, but the main thought is that we love our fur babies, and we can’t imagine the hereafter without them.

Last, but not least, no list for August would be complete without mention of the neo-pagan festival out in the desert where alternative lifestyles are celebrated. The original festival was known as Burning Man, but it has seen many variations ever since.

In Cratersville, all the skimpy outfits, free sex and recreational drugs really wouldn’t have gone over very well, so we celebrated a clockwork festival instead.

Of course, no one told the little creatures that all those other things were off limits. Oh well, at least we had smelling salts.

Enjoy the rest of summer.

The magic of autumn will be here before you know it!
